Parties Scheduled For Summer: Pomona Park In Fruitport

You might say Susan Halter is hooked on dancing. One of the participants in the 9th annual Dancing with the Local Stars (DWTLS) fundraiser for area food banks, who along with her dance teacher Dave Armbrecht, received the Critic’s Choice award at the Saturday matinee, realized she didn’t want to stop dancing after the event was over.

“I had major withdrawals as they call it. I had to do something. I decided to keep dance going somehow,” said Halter. She made phone calls, asked questions and after weeks of planning, she created a free community dance party in Fruitport at the band shell in Pomona Park. Sponsored by the Fruitport Lion’s Club, the dances are scheduled for every Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. — a total of 15 Wednesdays.

“Many dance instructors have volunteered to teach us a variety of dance styles—waltz, cha cha, swing — and even country line dancing. I am so pleased with the enthusiasm and generosity shown to create this new event, “ said Halter. “I will never forget my DWTLS experience and the joy it brought me—and the knowledge that so many food pantries will benefit from our hard work.”

Impact Entertainment DJ Services (meghandean@hotmail.com) will provide music for 14 of the 15 Wednesdays and the Silverado Band (www.silveradoband.net) will provide music on July 5.
